CECILIA ALEMANI TO CURATE THE 2021 VENICE BIENNALE

The director and chief curator of High Line Art (the non-profit organization that programs and maintains the park), Cecilia Alemani, has been appointed artistic director of the 59th Venice Biennale, taking place between May and November 2021. Making her the fifth woman to curate the central exhibition in the biennale’s 120-year history.

Alemani has previously curated the Italian pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale, served as curator of Frieze Projects for Frieze art fair in New York between 2012—2017 and been the guest curator for the performance art biennale Performa 11 in 2011, to mention a few of her curatorial projects.

Alemani’s husband—Artistic Director of New Museum—Massimiliano Gioni, curated the 2013 Biennale’s central exhibition, “The Encyclopedic Palace”.
